Project Portrait
Providing free portraits to deploying
and deployed military families.
What I would like to do is see all families who deploy or give birth during a deployment to have photos, professional photos, to help ease the pain of seperation. Seek out sponsors and get this going. I'm not quite sure how to go about it, but I want to try. What I want to do is get sponsors for equipment (lighting, backdrops, glass, ect.) and get a portable studio set up. Then contact local Family Readiness Groups groups via newspapers, troop commands ect. and when a unit is getting ready to deploy or during their two-week R&R's provide free family photos. The FRG could pick the place, we would then take down our portable studio and have families fill out a little form. We would take their pictures and then e-mail them a family photo along with the copyright to the picture.
I know so many families who send their service member off and then worry about whether they will ever make it back home. Many times these families can't afford a professional family photo - I know I have never been able to. Having a family photo for the spouse and family members left behind is a huge morale booster. It gives you hope that your family will be reunited again soon and that all will be as it once was.
Offering this service won't be easy, and I will need lots of help via sponsors and donations, but I think it is a worthy cause and something that will bring a lot of joy to a lot of people.
So, do you want to be a part of this? Are you willing to donate money, equipment, time or other resources to help Project Portrait get up and running? The need is there, the willingness on my part is there, and if we can get this thing going, maybe it can spread to other military installations around the world.
If you are willing to help, please contact me.
And, who am I?
My name is Tawny Archibald Campbell. I am a photographer, a mother and the wife of a United States Soldier serving in Germany. I have been a newspaper editor/reporter/photographer and have spent the last three years photographing military families and military training. I have been taking photos of Soldiers and their families for reduced prices, sometimes for free, but have realized I am limited by my equipment and my out of pocket costs. Being the wife of an Army Sergeant, we are definitely not rolling in money, and things are tight for us, but I know that what I put into portraits for families is nothing compared to the priceless memories I capture. Please help me provide these memories free of charge to the families of those who are willing to give their lives for us.
For our troops stationed in Germany
- We are now setting up photo sessions for units deploying
Eligible units must have orders for 180 days or longer
If you would like photos for your unit you must provide at least five (5) families who would like their photos taken and be responsible to provide an adequate backdrop, this could be a flag, aircraft, vehicle, ect.
- We are now offering photos to mothers who deliver babies at LRMC while their husband is deployed downrange.
These photos are FREE and taken within the first couple days of your new babies life. The photos are then put in a web album and e-mailed to both the mother and father. Just ask the staff at the Mother/Baby Ward for more information.
